Sonya grew up in the small town of Atlanta, TX and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville in 2011. She moved to Dallas, TX to attend the University Texas Southwestern Medical Center and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014. Upon graduation, she remained at UTSW for her Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency, rotating through general orthopaedic, chronic pain, and sports settings 2015-2016. Late fall 2016, Sonya left Texas to join the Howard Head Sports Medicine team. She is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist as recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association. Her clinical interests reside in helping patients recover to their previous activity levels from hip and spine issues though she is happy to treat shoulders, knees, and ankles as well. Alongside treating patients, Sonya is the Coordinator for the newly minted Howard Head Sports Medicine Orthopedic Residency, helping physical therapists expand their education into becoming Orthopaedic Specialists.

When not in clinic you might find her traveling as physical therapist for the US Snowboardcross team, working as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Tufts University School of Physical Therapy, and working on her MBA at The Johns Hopkins University. In her free time, you can find her snowboarding or mountain biking with her husband and border collie.
