Sonya grew up in the small town of Atlanta, TX and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville in 2011. She moved to Dallas, TX to attend the University Texas Southwestern Medical Center and received her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2014. Upon graduation, she remained at UTSW for her Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency, rotating through general orthopedic, chronic pain, and sports settings 2015-2016. Late fall 2016, Sonya left Texas to join the Howard Head Sports Medicine team. She is a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist as recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association. Her clinical interests reside in helping patients recover to their previous activity levels from hip and spine issues though she is happy to treat shoulders, knees, and ankles as well. Alongside treating patients, Sonya is the Coordinator for the Howard Head Sports Medicine Orthopedic Residency, helping physical therapists expand their education into becoming Orthopedic Specialists.

Sonya has a passion for constant learning. In 2024, Sonya graduated from The Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School with her master's in business administration, triple specializing in Healthcare Management, Innovation, and Technology (HMIT), Public and Private Sector Leadership, and Financial Management. 

When not in clinic you might find her traveling as physical therapist for the US Snowboardcross team or working as an Adjunct Faculty Member at Tufts University School of Physical Therapy. In her free time, you can find her snowboarding or mountain biking with her husband and border collie.
