A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with bachelor's degrees in both zoology and history, Thomas moved to Vail to ski and work as a whitewater raft guide. As a member of the U.S. Men’s National Whitewater Raft Team, Thomas worked closely with HHSM staff to develop the team’s performance enhancement program. This experience sparked his interest in sports medicine and led him to pursue his doctorate of physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He then went on to complete a post-graduate sports residency at Gundersen Lutheran Sports Medicine, earning his sports certified specialist designation in 2010. In addition to focusing on patient recovery from shoulder and knee injuries, Thomas’s commitment to continuing education has inspired him to present and publish at the local and national level.
